UpdateContest is the single entry point for contest settings, from schedule and visibility down to each of the configuration blocks. Only the fields the patch carries are written; the rest keep the values they already have. It never moves the contest between statuses — the transition methods below do that — and it cannot change the format of a contest which already has submissions.
