UpdateParticipant writes the fields selected by the patch mask, and is where most organiser actions on a participant live: there is no dedicated method for moving someone between official and unofficial ranking, for awarding a medal or for granting extra time on top of the contest duration. Extra time is counted in seconds, whereas organiser tooling normally asks for it in minutes. Once a contest is finalized the results of its official participants are final, and organiser tooling stops offering edits for them.
